About
Jetstar Airways is Australia's largest low-cost carrier and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qantas. Launched in 2004 as Qantas' response to Virgin Blue's success in the domestic market, Jetstar has grown into a significant regional player operating 40+ destinations across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. The airline carries over 30 million passengers annually across its group of carriers.
The Jetstar Group includes Jetstar Airways (Australia/New Zealand), Jetstar Asia (Singapore), and Jetstar Japan. While Jetstar is not part of any global alliance, its integration with Qantas means passengers can earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points on select fares and access seamless connections at Australian hubs.
For travelers with flexibility and minimal baggage, Jetstar delivers genuine value on domestic Australian routes and short-haul international flights. Compare total costs including bags and seat selection before assuming budget carriers are always cheapest.
