Latvia

Schengen area - visa-free for EU/EEA citizens

Overview

Latvia is a Baltic state situated on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, and Belarus to the southeast. The country serves as a strategic air travel hub for the Baltic region, with Riga International Airport (RIX) functioning as the main gateway and the headquarters of airBaltic, one of Europe's most notable regional carriers.

Despite its modest size of approximately 1.9 million people, Latvia punches above its weight in aviation. airBaltic has transformed Riga into a connecting hub between Western Europe and destinations further east, operating an all-Airbus A220 fleet known for efficiency and passenger comfort. The airline's hub model makes Riga an attractive connection point for travelers between Scandinavia, Central Europe, and the Baltics.

As an EU member state since 2004 and part of the Schengen Area since 2007, Latvia offers seamless travel integration with the rest of Europe. The country adopted the Euro in 2014, simplifying transactions for travelers from the Eurozone.
