About
Virgin Australia is Australia's second-largest airline, headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland. Originally launched in 2000 as Virgin Blue (a low-cost carrier), the airline repositioned itself as a full-service carrier in 2011 under the Virgin Australia brand. Following financial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline entered voluntary administration in April 2020 and was subsequently acquired by Bain Capital in November 2020.
Today, Virgin Australia operates a domestic network of 31+ destinations across all Australian states and territories, plus international routes to Fiji, Indonesia (Bali), New Zealand, Qatar, Samoa, and Vanuatu. The airline is not a member of any global alliance but maintains strategic partnerships with Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, and United Airlines for international connectivity.
Virgin Australia is known for its friendly service culture, competitive pricing with full-service amenities, and the popular Velocity Frequent Flyer program with over 10 million members.
