Introduction

Mashhad International Airport (MHD), also known as Shahid Hashemi Nejad International Airport, serves Mashhad, Iran's second-largest city and the holiest city in Iran. Located 10 km south of the city center, it's one of Iran's busiest airports due to religious pilgrimage traffic.

The airport has a single passenger terminal with domestic and international sections. Millions of pilgrims visit annually to pay respects at the Imam Reza shrine, making this one of the world's busiest pilgrimage destinations.

Key airlines: Iran Air, Mahan Air, Iran Aseman Airlines, Qeshm Air, Turkish Airlines, and various Middle Eastern/Central Asian carriers.
