About
Emirates is a full-service international airline based at Dubai International Airport (DXB). It is not part of a global airline alliance, so partner benefits and through-ticket rules depend on the specific airline named in your booking. If you are comparing fares, start with the baggage line on the ticket: Emirates uses two different checked-bag systems, and the route matters as much as the cabin.

Excess Baggage Fees
There is no honest route-universal price. Emirates calculates extra weight or pieces from your origin, destination, cabin, and purchase channel. Check Manage Your Booking before paying; an online purchase can be cheaper than buying at the airport. On piece-concept routes, the normal size limit is 150 cm total dimensions; a bag above 150 cm and up to 203 cm may attract an oversize charge.
Special Items
Sports equipment, musical instruments, mobility aids, and infant equipment have item-specific packing and acceptance rules. Check the relevant page in Emirates' baggage hub before you arrive; oversized equipment is not automatically accepted just because it fits within your weight allowance.

- Business Class chauffeur service is a significant benefit
Baggage:
- Weight system is more flexible—spread across multiple bags
- Price extra baggage in Manage Your Booking; the amount depends on your itinerary
- Check the allowance printed on your ticket when another airline operates a segment
A380 Experience:
- Request A380 for Shower Spa and Onboard Lounge
- Business Class A380 upper deck is quieter
- First Class suites are most private on A380
At the Airport:
- Dubai T3 is massive—allow time for connections
- Lounges at DXB have excellent spa facilities
- Chauffeur service requires 10-hour advance booking
Skywards Tips:
- Partner airlines include flydubai, Qantas, Japan Airlines
- Transfer partners: Marriott Bonvoy, various credit cards
- First Class awards require Silver status (as of 2025)
Common Issues:
- Fuel surcharges on awards are very high
- Special fares are heavily restricted—Flex is better value for flexibility
- No alliance means limited partner redemption options
- 7 kg carry-on limit is strictly enforced
