Overview
Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is Scotland's busiest airport, at Ingliston west of the city. Passengers use one terminal building with a check-in hall, one main security route, an airside departure lounge, and gate corridors. Gate usage is operational rather than a permanent domestic/international split, so follow the flight-information screens and the airport's current terminal maps.
For connections, a single building does not mean every itinerary remains airside. Border, baggage, and security steps depend on the arriving flight, onward destination, and whether the airline checked bags through.

Connections & Transfers
Edinburgh Airport's arriving-passenger guide provides the published connection procedure.
- International arrival to a UK flight: clear immigration. Checked bags normally need to be collected and re-checked unless the airline has checked them through.
- UK arrival to an international flight: no immigration step is listed, but checked bags normally need to be collected and re-checked unless checked through.
- Separate tickets or uncertain baggage status: ask the arriving airline before leaving the gate area. If baggage must be collected, follow arrivals, check in again landside, and pass security for the next flight.
Use the airline's connection instructions and required check-in deadline rather than a generic minimum-connection table. Allow for border processing, baggage delivery, check-in, and security whenever the itinerary does not offer a protected through-connection.

Getting In and Out
The airport has no National Rail station in the terminal. The tram links it with Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Park, and Haymarket stations; St Andrew Square is a short walk from Waverley. Airlink 100 and local services 17 and 18 provide city bus links, while coaches connect other Scottish cities. Check live service information: city-centre works or incidents can alter the normal tram and bus route.
Public Transit
Edinburgh Trams
The scheduled route runs from the airport through Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket, Princes Street, and St Andrew Square, then continues through Leith to Newhaven. Waverley station and Edinburgh Bus Station are a short walk from St Andrew Square.
Buy or activate a ticket, validate a smartcard, or tap on with a contactless card/device on the platform before boarding. If using contactless Tap On, Tap Off, also tap off after the journey. Use the official fare finder for current airport-zone tickets and times.
Current disruption: Edinburgh Airport's latest notice says trams are temporarily running only between the airport and West End (Shandwick Place) because of the Princes Street closure. Check Edinburgh Trams immediately before travel for restoration or revised ticket acceptance.
Edinburgh city buses
- Airlink 100: express airport–city service. Consult Lothian's live timetable and service updates for the current city-centre stop, especially during diversions.
- Services 17 and 18: regular city routes serving the airport; these replaced the former Skylink 200 and 400 in April 2025.
All airport bus stops are outside the terminal. Edinburgh Airport's bus directory also lists current direct coaches for Glasgow, Fife, Dundee, Stirling, Aberdeen, Inverness, Oban, and Fort William corridors. Compare the operator timetable with a tram-to-rail connection when travelling beyond Edinburgh.
