About

Condor is a German leisure airline headquartered in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt, operating primarily from Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Founded in 1955 as Deutsche Flugdienst, Condor has become one of Europe's leading holiday carriers, connecting Germany to popular vacation destinations worldwide.

The airline was formerly part of the Thomas Cook Group until its collapse in 2019, after which Condor was rescued through German government support and subsequently acquired by the investment firm Attestor in 2021. Under new ownership, Condor has undergone a significant transformation, including a bold rebranding in 2022 featuring distinctive striped livery in five vibrant colors (yellow, blue, orange, green, and red), making it one of the most recognizable fleets in European aviation.

Condor operates as a hybrid leisure carrier—not a low-cost airline but positioned between traditional legacy carriers and budget airlines. The airline is not a member of any major alliance but partners with various airlines for codeshares and connections. Condor's fleet renewal program has introduced modern Airbus A330neo and A320neo family aircraft, significantly improving passenger comfort and environmental efficiency.

Tips & Tricks

Booking

  • Compare fare types: Economy Basic has fewer benefits—check if Economy Best is worth the difference for flexibility and seat selection
  • Book early for peak seasons: Caribbean winter and Mediterranean summer sell out quickly
  • Check Frankfurt connections: Condor often offers competitive pricing from regional German airports via Frankfurt
  • Miles & More redemption: Consider using Miles & More miles for Condor flights, especially for premium cabins

Baggage

  • Pre-book online: Baggage fees are always lower when purchased during booking or online, not at the airport
  • Zone awareness: Know your route's zone to anticipate baggage costs
  • Sports equipment: Book sports equipment in advance for significant savings
  • 23 kg limit: Condor strictly enforces weight limits—weigh bags before departure

At the Airport

  • Frankfurt Terminal 1: Condor operates from Terminal 1—allow time for the large terminal
  • Online check-in: Complete check-in online to use bag drop and skip counter lines
  • Business Class Lounge: Condor Lounge at Frankfurt is a comfortable option for Business passengers
  • Early arrival: Long-haul flights require 3-hour check-in deadline

In-Flight

  • A330neo: The newest aircraft have the best cabin product—check aircraft type when booking
  • XL Seats: Exit row seats offer significantly more legroom for a reasonable fee
  • Pre-order meals: Special dietary meals must be ordered 48+ hours in advance
  • Entertainment app: Download the Condor app before short-haul flights for streaming content

Maximizing Value

  • Condor Club Gold: Frequent travelers should aim for Gold status for lounge access and extra bags
  • Miles & More earning: Link your Miles & More account to earn award miles
  • Package deals: Condor offers competitive flight + hotel packages through their website
  • Shoulder seasons: Best value on Caribbean and Mediterranean routes in shoulder seasons (May-June, September-October)

Common Issues

  • No alliance membership: Condor is not in Star Alliance despite Lufthansa partnership—benefits don't fully transfer
  • Leisure schedule: Flights often depart at inconvenient times (very early morning or late night) to optimize turnaround
  • Zone pricing complexity: Baggage fees vary significantly by zone—always check your specific route
  • Frankfurt size: Allow ample connection time at Frankfurt Airport
