Dublin Airport Guide

Dublin Airport (DUB) is Ireland's main international airport, about 10 km north of central Dublin. It has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, linked landside by a signed covered walkway. Airline allocations can change, so use Dublin Airport's airline and terminal finder or the live flight display rather than a fixed airline list.

All Flight Connection gates are within the connected airport complex. Eligible connecting passengers follow the purple Flight Connections signs after arrival; whether you remain airside depends on baggage and journey details.

U.S. Preclearance is in Terminal 2 beyond airport security. Most direct U.S. flights use it, but not every flight does; confirm with the airline. Travellers who complete it clear U.S. immigration, customs, and agriculture inspections before departure.

Staying on the connection route

• If checked bags are tagged through to the final destination, follow Flight Connections, check the gate on the screen, and complete any passport or security check directed by staff.
• A self-connecting passenger with hand baggage only can normally use the connection route. Dublin Airport notes an exception for passengers connecting through Terminal 1 between 06:00 and 13:00, who must exit through baggage reclaim and clear security again.
• If checked bags are not tagged through, go to baggage reclaim, pass customs, take the signed walkway if changing terminal, check in the bags, and clear security again.

Do not rely on a generic minimum-connection table. Use the time specified by the airline or booking, and allow extra time when separate tickets, baggage reclaim, border formalities, a terminal change, or U.S. Preclearance are involved.

U.S. Preclearance

The facility is on the ground floor of Terminal 2 beyond security. Dublin Airport recommends arriving at the terminal three hours before a long-haul flight and following the flight-information screens for when to enter Preclearance. Most direct U.S. flights use it, but confirm eligibility with the airline. After Preclearance, remain in the U.S. departure area until boarding.

Dublin Airport has no passenger-rail station. Direct airport coaches and Transport for Ireland (TFI) buses leave from signed zones outside both terminals; taxis use the official ranks. Choose the stop closest to the destination rather than assuming every coach follows the same city-centre route, and check live road conditions for a time-sensitive journey.

Important: Uber does not operate in Ireland. The app exists but only connects to licensed taxi drivers at standard taxi rates.

Taxi pickup: Follow signs to the taxi ranks outside Arrivals at both terminals. Expect queues during peak arrival times.

Consult Dublin Airport's bus directory for the current departure zone, route, and operator timetable.

• Dublin Express: Routes 782, 783, and 784 link both terminals with different city stops. The operator describes service from early morning until shortly after midnight; check the route map and next departure, and buy online or use an accepted cashless payment method.
• Aircoach: services leave from Zones 2 and 20 for Dublin and onward destinations. Check the operator's route before choosing a stop.
• TFI network: current airport routes include 16, 19, 24, 33a, 41, 101, 102, and 109A from Zones 11, 13, and 15. Use the TFI journey planner for the correct bus, current fare, and connection to Luas or DART.

There is no train station at the terminals. If continuing by rail, plan a bus or coach to a suitable city station or interchange.

Good to know: EU roaming is included on Irish SIMs. Visitors from the EU can use their home SIM at no extra charge.

ATMs are located throughout both terminals in Arrivals and Departures halls. Major Irish banks represented include Bank of Ireland and AIB.

Currency: Euro (€)

Currency exchange: Bureaux de change are located in both terminals but offer poor rates. Use ATMs with your bank card for better rates, or services like Wise or Revolut.

Tip: Ireland is largely cashless. Contactless payment is accepted almost everywhere, including small shops and pubs.

The Loop is Dublin Airport's duty-free retailer, with large stores in both terminals after security.
