Lisbon Airport Guide

Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) is Portugal's principal airport and TAP Air Portugal's main hub, a short distance north of central Lisbon.

The airport has two terminals:

• Terminal 1 (T1) handles all arrivals and departures for most airlines, including TAP Air Portugal.
• Terminal 2 (T2) is a separate departures facility for the airlines assigned there. Assignments change, so use ANA's live flight information rather than assuming every low-cost flight uses T2.

T1 and T2 are not connected by a public walkway. Use the free landside shuttle. Terminal 2 is open only from 03:30 to 00:30, and ANA states that the shuttle does not operate between 01:30 and 03:30. The airport Metro station is at T1.

Key fact: T2 is a separate departures facility. A connection involving T2 requires a landside shuttle and departure formalities there; all arriving passengers use T1.

Terminal Layout

• Terminal 1 contains arrivals, the airport Metro station, and Schengen and non-Schengen departure areas.
• Terminal 2 is a separate departure terminal with limited opening hours. T2 is not exclusively Schengen; use the flight's published terminal and destination controls.

Getting Between Terminals

Use the free airport shuttle between the signed T1 and T2 stops. It is not a 24-hour service: ANA publishes no shuttle operation from 01:30 to 03:30. Check live airport notices for the current stop and allow time for the ride, check-in cutoff, security, and any passport control.

Use the minimum connection accepted by the airline on a protected ticket. Generic time and walking tables are unreliable because the route depends on Schengen status, bags, terminal, and queues. Separate tickets require a much larger buffer, especially if the departure uses T2.

Non-Schengen Arrivals Process (T1)

If arriving from outside the Schengen area (UK, USA, Brazil, etc.):

1. Exit aircraft at your arrival gate
2. Follow signs to passport control/immigration
3. Clear passport control when entering the Schengen Area
4. Collect checked bags at the baggage hall
5. Clear customs when required
6. Re-check bags if connecting to another flight on a different ticket
7. Take shuttle bus to T2 if required
8. Clear security at your departure terminal

Schengen connections: If arriving from and departing to Schengen countries, no passport control is required and connections are faster.

For a protected connection, follow the airline's transfer signs and confirm whether bags are tagged through. For a separate ticket, expect to enter arrivals, collect any checked bag, check in again, and clear departure controls.

LIS is close to central Lisbon. The Metro Red Line serves T1 and connects with the rest of the Metro network. Carris buses and long-distance coaches also serve the airport, while national rail connections are available from Oriente after a short Metro or bus trip. T2 passengers first use the free terminal shuttle. Taxis and licensed app-based vehicles are road alternatives and remain subject to traffic.

Uber and Bolt both operate at Lisbon airport and are popular choices:

• Pickup: ANA currently designates P2, level 2, on the arrivals level for licensed TVDE app pickups
• Payment: Through app (credit card required)

FreeNow also operates in Lisbon, connecting to licensed taxis via app.

Official Taxis:

• Taxi ranks: Follow the current airport signs to the licensed rank
• Fare: Metered; confirm current supplements and request a receipt

Tips:

• Only use official taxis from designated ranks or apps
• Ensure the meter is running
• Compare the app quote with the metered taxi option

Metro Red Line (Recommended)

The Metro Linha Vermelha (Red Line) connects the airport directly to central Lisbon.

Station: "Aeroporto" station is located at Terminal 1

The Red Line serves Oriente and interchange stations including Alameda and Saldanha. Change lines for most historic-centre destinations. Lisbon Metro normally operates from 06:30 to 01:00; check service status and current fares on the official Metro site.

How to take the Metro from T1:

1. Follow signs to "Metro" from the arrivals hall
2. Buy or load the appropriate ticket at the machines, or use an accepted contactless bank card
3. Take the Red Line toward "São Sebastião"
4. Transfer at Alameda (Green Line) for Rossio or Baixa-Chiado
5. Transfer at Saldanha (Yellow Line) for Marquês de Pombal

T2 passengers: The Metro station is at T1. Use the free terminal shuttle, taking account of its overnight gap.

Carris Buses and Coaches

Carris routes serve the Aeroporto stop, including connections toward Oriente and other Lisbon districts. Vehicle luggage restrictions and schedules vary by route. ANA's official public-transport page also lists current long-distance coach operators. Check the operator rather than relying on the former Aerobus timetable.

Night Service

Carris route 208 provides night service through the airport corridor. Confirm the travel-date timetable and stop in Carris's planner. Licensed taxis and app-based vehicles remain alternatives outside Metro hours.
