Overview

Stockholm Arlanda is about 40 km north of central Stockholm. The terminal map has changed: former Terminal 4 is now the C-gate area of Terminal 5, connected after security by a roughly seven-minute walkway. Most travellers will see Terminal 2 or Terminal 5 on their flight, but always check the live departure rather than an old airline allocation.

For central Stockholm, Arlanda Express is the fastest rail option at about 18 minutes. Commuter trains take about 38 minutes and use Arlanda Central in SkyCity, while airport coaches trade speed for a lower price.

Stockholm has other airports, including Bromma, Skavsta, and Västerås. Confirm the IATA code: a ticket marketed for Stockholm does not necessarily use ARN.

Connections & Transfers

Start with the terminal and gate on the operating flight. The C gates formerly called Terminal 4 are part of Terminal 5 and connect after security. For T2–T5 connections, Swedavia provides itinerary-dependent transfer buses after security; outside security, the free inter-terminal Arlanda Express ride links Arlanda South and Arlanda North.

Getting Between Terminals

Method Route Frequency Time
T5 main areas ↔ C30–C44 After-security walkway About 7 min
T2 ↔ T5, eligible connections On-request transfer bus Staffed 05:30–22:00; arrives within 20 min of request
Arlanda South ↔ Arlanda North Arlanda Express before security About 1 min; free between airport stations

After-security bus stops and routing differ for Schengen and non-Schengen journeys. Use Swedavia's current transfer page and the button at the signed stop. If your itinerary sends you landside, allow for any baggage, passport, check-in, and security requirements rather than relying on an airport-wide MCT table.

Transfer Tips

  • Check the live gate before choosing a route; a gate change can alter the transfer path.
  • Ask the airline whether bags are checked through, especially across separate tickets.
  • Passport control depends on the Schengen status of both flights.
  • The after-security transfer bus is on request, not a continuously circulating people mover.

Getting In and Out

Rail options include Arlanda Express from Arlanda South or North and commuter, regional, and long-distance trains from Arlanda Central in SkyCity. Coaches serve Stockholm and other cities from terminal-specific stops. Check the operator and terminal before walking to a bus stop.

Taxi & Rideshare

Taxis are available at Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 around the clock. Swedish taxi pricing varies by company, so use the signed airport service, check the vehicle's comparison price, and agree to a fixed price when offered. For app-based rides, follow the app's current pickup instruction rather than an old terminal-door list.

Public Transit

Arlanda Express

The Arlanda Express is the non-stop train to Stockholm Central, taking about 18 minutes.

To Stockholm Central Station:

  1. Follow signs to "Arlanda Express" at SkyCity or Terminal 5
  2. Purchase tickets at machines, online, or via the app (advance booking saves money)
  3. Board the yellow Arlanda Express train
  4. Exit at Stockholm C (only stop)

Use the Arlanda Express app, website, or airport machines for the current timetable and fare. The train also provides a free one-minute landside transfer between Arlanda South and Arlanda North.

Flygbussarna (Airport Coaches)

Vy Flygbussarna, Vy bus4you, and FlixBus currently serve both Terminal 2 and Terminal 5. Operators, stops, and onboard-payment rules vary, so use Swedavia's real-time bus page and buy from the operator before boarding when required.

Commuter Train (Pendeltag)

SL commuter trains use Arlanda Central in SkyCity and take about 38 minutes to Stockholm Central or 18 minutes to Uppsala. A station passage fee applies at Arlanda Central—Swedavia currently lists SEK 157—and may or may not be included in the ticket product. Check SL/UL and the station gate before travel.

Other Bus Services

  • Swedavia's live bus page lists current long-distance and regional operators.
  • SL buses use SkyCity; other operators use the terminal shown in their booking.

  • Exchange rate: Approximately 1 EUR = 11.3 SEK, 1 USD = 10.5 SEK

Currency Exchange

Better alternatives:

  • Withdraw SEK from ATMs using a no-fee debit card (look for "Bankomat" branded ATMs for lower fees)
