Boston Airport Guide

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) sits across the harbour from downtown Boston. It has four passenger terminals—A, B, C and E—with no Terminal D. The important connection split is Terminal A versus the post-security B–C–E complex.

• Terminal A remains separate from the other terminals after security.
• Terminals B, C and E are connected by post-security corridors.
• Free Massport shuttles connect all four terminals landside.

Do not follow older guides that describe an A–B airside corridor. Massport's February 2026 project update says that connector is still under development with anticipated completion in fiscal year 2028. Check the live terminal and gate rather than relying on a fixed airline list.

Check whether Terminal A is involved. For an eligible domestic connection within B, C or E, follow the post-security connector signs and remain airside. If either flight uses Terminal A and the other does not, leave security, take the landside route and clear TSA screening again.

Landside terminal shuttle

Massport's free blue shuttles stop on the lower-level curb at every terminal. Follow Ground Transportation / Shuttle Bus signs and use the route shown at the stop. Daytime routes 11, 22 and 33 divide the terminal and Airport Station stops differently; routes 55 and 88 cover off-peak or overnight periods. Do not memorise one bus number for every arrival time.

International arrivals

Unless your flight is handled through a recognised US preclearance facility, an international arrival requires US immigration, baggage collection and customs at the first US airport. Recheck through-tagged baggage at the designated point, then pass TSA security for the onward flight. The B–C–E airside corridors do not bypass that arrivals process.

Bags and separate tickets

For a domestic through connection, verify the onward boarding pass and final destination on the baggage tag. With separate tickets or bags not checked through, plan to reclaim and recheck. Logan has no single airport-wide minimum connection time: use the time accepted by the ticketing airline and add room for international processing, a Terminal A change or a separate-ticket recheck.

Take the Silver Line SL1 for South Station, the Seaport and Red Line connections; take a free Massport shuttle to Airport Station for the Blue Line toward downtown. The Blue Line does not stop at the passenger terminals themselves. A taxi or ride app can be quickest off-peak, but tunnel traffic makes road times unpredictable.

Uber and Lyft operate at Logan. Pick-up is generally consolidated in designated garage areas rather than at every arrivals curb: follow the app and Massport's current Ride App signs for your terminal, as construction can change the walking route.

• Downtown Boston: $25-40
• Back Bay: $30-45
• Cambridge: $35-50
• Harvard Square: $40-55

Wait times average 5-10 minutes but can extend to 15-20 minutes during peak hours and weather events.

Taxis are available at each terminal's ground transportation area. Boston taxis are metered:

• Downtown Boston: $25-35 (plus tolls and tip)
• Back Bay: $30-40
• Cambridge: $35-45

There is a $2.75 airport fee and tolls may apply depending on route (Ted Williams Tunnel: $1.75 eastbound only).

The two core MBTA choices serve different parts of Boston. Check live service alerts before committing, especially during late-night work or winter weather.

MBTA Blue Line (Subway)

Take a free Massport shuttle from the lower-level terminal curb to Airport Station, then board the Blue Line toward downtown. Aquarium, State and Government Center are useful stops for the waterfront and central Boston; State connects with the Orange Line and Government Center with the Green Line. Check MBTA for the current fare, payment options and last train.

Silver Line (SL1 Bus)

The SL1 stops directly at the terminal curbs and runs through the Seaport to South Station, with Red Line, commuter-rail and Amtrak connections. Travel from Logan is free; check MBTA for the current inbound fare, schedule and service alerts.

Water Taxi

Massport shuttle route 66 links the terminals with the Water Transportation Dock during its operating hours. Ferry and water-taxi destinations are operator-dependent, so confirm the current sailing before taking the shuttle; this is not a turn-up-and-go substitute for the Blue or Silver Line.

Budget tips:

• Economy parking offers the best daily rate with free shuttle service
• Pre-book online at massport.com for guaranteed spots during busy periods
• Off-airport lots (Park Shuttle & Fly, etc.) offer rates from $12-18/day with shuttle service

Short stays: First 30 minutes free in Central Parking. $6/hour after that, $39 daily max.

Logan's dining has improved significantly with recent renovations. Options by terminal:

Local tip: Legal Sea Foods is a Boston institution - their clam chowder has been served at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Major US carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon) offer prepaid SIMs starting around $30-50 for basic data plans. Consider purchasing in advance or using an eSIM for faster setup.

ATMs are located throughout all terminals:

• Terminal A: Near gates A5 and A17
• Terminal B: Near security and gates B30, B38
• Terminal C: Near gates C19 and C40
• Terminal E: Near immigration and gates E2, E7

Banks represented include Bank of America, Citizens Bank, and Santander. Most charge $3-5 for out-of-network withdrawals.

Exchange rates include significant markups - using a no-foreign-fee debit card or Wise is more economical.

Terminal E has the best shopping selection for international travelers. Terminal C has been renovated with expanded retail options.

• Hours: Opens 2 hours before first Delta departure

The Club BOS

• Location: Terminal C, near gate C19
• Access: Priority Pass, day pass ($45-50), various credit cards

This is the main Priority Pass option at Logan.

American Airlines Admirals Club

• Location: Terminal B, near gate B30

Near Airport:

Getting Around: The CharlieCard works on all MBTA subways, buses, and commuter rail. A 7-day LinkPass ($22.50) offers unlimited rides and is worthwhile for stays of 3+ days.

Weather note: Boston winters are cold (Dec-Feb). The Blue Line tunnel keeps you warm between the airport and downtown.
