About

TransAsia Airways ceased all operations on November 22, 2016, following two fatal accidents and subsequent Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) findings of systemic safety deficiencies. This guide provides historical information about the airline.

TransAsia Airways (previously known as Foshing Airlines) was a Taiwanese airline headquartered in Taipei. Founded in 1951, it was one of Taiwan's oldest airlines and the third-largest carrier in the country after China Airlines and EVA Air. At its peak, TransAsia operated domestic routes throughout Taiwan and regional international services to destinations in China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.

The airline rebranded from Foshing Airlines to TransAsia Airways in 1992, reflecting its ambitions to expand beyond purely domestic operations. Over the following decades, TransAsia established itself as a significant player in Taiwan's aviation market, operating from hubs at Taipei Songshan (TSA) and Kaohsiung (KHH).

TransAsia's operations came under intense scrutiny following two fatal crashes in 2014 and 2015, both involving ATR 72 turboprop aircraft. After the Taiwan CAA conducted comprehensive reviews revealing systemic safety issues including inadequate pilot training and oversight failures, the regulator revoked the airline's operating certificate, leading to the carrier's immediate dissolution.
