About

AIR DO (stylized as AIRDO) is a Japanese regional airline headquartered in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Founded in 1996 as Hokkaido International Airlines, the carrier launched operations in December 1998 with its inaugural flight from Tokyo Haneda to Sapporo New Chitose Airport. The "DO" in the name refers to "Hokkai-DO," reflecting the airline's identity as the "Wings of Hokkaido."

After financial challenges in the early 2000s, AIR DO restructured with support from All Nippon Airways (ANA), establishing a strategic partnership that continues today. The airline operates an all-Boeing fleet of 14 aircraft—nine Boeing 737-700s and five Boeing 767-300s—serving routes exclusively between Hokkaido and mainland Japan. In 2022, AIR DO joined Regional Plus Wings Corporation, a holding company shared with Solaseed Air.

AIR DO offers competitive fares on Hokkaido routes while maintaining full-service amenities including complimentary beverages and in-flight snacks featuring Hokkaido specialties. Through its ANA codeshare partnership, passengers can earn ANA Mileage Club miles on qualifying flights or accumulate DO Miles through AIR DO's own My AIRDO loyalty program.

Tips & Tricks

Booking

  • Compare with ANA: Check both AIR DO direct and ANA codeshare prices—sometimes one is cheaper
  • Book early for peak seasons: Hokkaido is popular during ski season (December-March) and lavender season (July)
  • My AIRDO membership: Free to join and provides booking convenience plus DO Miles earning

At the Airport

  • Use online check-in: Skip counter lines and proceed directly to security
  • Haneda Terminal 2: Same terminal as ANA—convenient for connections
  • Baggage weight: The 20 kg free allowance is generous; weigh bags to avoid fees
  • Early arrival in winter: Allow extra time during Hokkaido winter for potential weather-related delays

In-Flight

  • Bring entertainment: No seatback screens or WiFi—flights are 1.5-2 hours
  • Try the snacks: Hokkaido-themed treats showcase local flavors
  • Window seats: Hokkaido approaches offer beautiful views of mountains and coastline

Maximizing Value

  • DO Miles vs ANA miles: Choose based on your travel patterns—frequent Hokkaido travelers may prefer DO Miles; occasional travelers might prefer ANA Mileage Club for broader redemption options
  • Connecting flights: If connecting from international flights, check if your international carrier's baggage rules apply (most significant carrier rule)
  • Sports equipment: Skis, snowboards, and golf clubs accepted at standard baggage rates—convenient for Hokkaido ski trips

Common Issues

  • International connections: If on separate tickets, AIRDO's 20 kg limit applies regardless of your international carrier's allowance
  • Baggage policy change (May 2026): The system is switching from weight-based to piece-based—verify current rules before travel
  • No priority boarding: Even on ANA codeshare flights, AIRDO doesn't offer priority boarding
  • Carry-on enforcement: Bags must fit overhead and you must stow them yourself—no assistance provided
