Tips & Tricks

Booking:

  • Book directly on airtransat.com for easier changes and customer service access
  • Compare total costs including baggage when evaluating against competitors
  • Eco Standard often represents better value than Eco Budget once you add baggage fees
  • Watch for sales on transatlantic routes, especially in shoulder seasons (May, October)

Baggage:

  • Always pre-purchase baggage online at least 24 hours before departure for up to 25% savings
  • Eco Budget travelers to sun destinations: factor in the $35+ carry-on fee when comparing fares
  • Europe-bound passengers: all fare classes include cabin bags, so Eco Budget can be good value
  • Vacation packages include baggage allowances not affected by 2025 fee changes

At the Airport:

  • Use online check-in to skip counter lines; proceed directly to bag drop
  • YUL: Air Transat operates from the international departures area
  • YYZ: Flights depart from Terminal 3
  • Allow extra time during peak winter season (December-March) for Caribbean flights

Club Class:

  • Worth considering for overnight transatlantic flights for the extra legroom and lie-flat-adjacent recline
  • Includes 2 checked bags at 32 kg each, which can offset the fare premium for heavy packers
  • A321LR has the newest Club Class product in a 2-2 configuration

In-Flight:

  • Download entertainment to your device before boarding (no WiFi available)
  • Pre-order meals online for southern routes to guarantee availability
  • Special meals for transatlantic flights must be requested at least 48 hours in advance
  • USB charging available at every seat; bring your own cable

Connections:

  • Air Transat's Porter Airlines partnership allows one-stop itineraries via Toronto or Montreal
  • Air Europa interline agreement (since 2025) provides connections to Spain's domestic network
  • No through-check of bags with non-partner airlines; allow time to reclear security

Loyalty:

  • VIPorter members can earn points on Air Transat flights through the Porter partnership
  • Watch for the new Desjardins/Visa loyalty program launching in late 2026

Common Issues:

  • Mobile app occasionally has check-in bugs; use the website as backup
  • Seat selection fees apply even on higher fare classes; book early for best selection
  • Weight limits (23 kg economy, 32 kg Club) are strictly enforced at check-in
