Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), also known as Son Sant Joan, is Mallorca's principal airport and a major leisure gateway to the Balearic Islands. It is east of Palma.

The airport has one passenger terminal. Check-in is on floor 2; after central security, passengers reach the boarding level and one of four gate modules, A, B, C, or D. Module use and gate assignments vary by flight and season, so use the airport screens rather than a fixed airline or Schengen-status list.

Key fact: PMI uses one terminal and four connected boarding modules, but not every itinerary is an unrestricted airside walk. Passport control, baggage collection, customs, or a new check-in can require a different controlled or landside route.

Terminal Layout

The central terminal contains check-in, security, arrivals, and baggage claim. Boarding takes place in modules A-D, entered from floor 4 after security. Follow the assigned gate and control signs; gate changes can substantially alter the walking route.

The airline determines the valid minimum connection for a protected itinerary and whether baggage is transferred. For separate tickets, allow for baggage claim, check-in deadlines, security, and any border controls.

Non-Schengen Arrivals

For an arrival from outside the Schengen area:

1. Follow signs for passport control and the onward or arrivals flow.
2. Clear passport control when required.
3. Follow the airline's instructions for checked baggage; through-checking cannot be assumed merely because both flights use PMI.
4. Continue through the controlled connection route or, if directed landside, complete check-in and security again.

For travelers entering Spain (not connecting):

1. Clear passport control
2. Collect checked bags at arrivals
3. Clear customs
4. Exit to arrivals hall

Transfer Tips

• Check the gate display before starting toward a module.
• A Schengen/non-Schengen connection can include passport control.
• Ask the airline whether baggage is through-checked, especially on separate reservations.
• Fast Lane eligibility and purchase conditions are published by Aena and can change.

Public buses stop at the airport for Palma, S'Arenal, Hospital Son Espases, and several resort corridors. Taxis, pre-booked transfers, rental cars, and private vehicles are alternatives. Road times vary with traffic and seasonal demand. There is no rail station at PMI.

Important: Uber does not operate in Spain. Use these alternatives:

The TIB/Aerotib network provides seasonal and year-round links across Mallorca. Aena currently lists:

No Rail Connection

PMI does not have a direct rail connection. The Palma Metro and Soller Railway do not serve the airport. Use bus or taxi to reach Palma's train stations.
