About
Czech Airlines (CSA) ceased independent operations on October 26, 2024, and was fully absorbed into Smartwings. This guide provides historical information about the airline.
Czech Airlines (Ceske aerolinie, a.s., styled as CSA Czech Airlines) was the flag carrier of the Czech Republic and one of the world's oldest airlines, founded on October 6, 1923. Headquartered in Prague, the airline operated for over a century, making it the fifth-oldest airline in the world to have operated continuously under the same name.
At its peak, Czech Airlines served over 100 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America from its hub at Prague Vaclav Havel Airport. The airline was renowned for its distinctive red, white, and blue livery reflecting the Czech national colors and its heritage as a pioneer of Central European aviation.
Czech Airlines was a founding member of SkyTeam alliance, joining on March 25, 2001, alongside Aeromexico, Air France, Delta Air Lines, and Korean Air. This membership provided passengers access to an extensive global network and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits through the OK Plus program.
Following years of financial difficulties and multiple ownership changes, Czech Airlines was acquired by Smartwings Group (then Travel Service) in 2018. Operational integration progressed gradually until October 2024, when Czech Airlines ceased operating as an independent carrier. All former CSA routes are now operated under the Smartwings brand.
